About the event
Hatsugama 初釜
Hatsugama translates to “the first kettle of the year.” It is a special tea gathering for chajin 茶人 (Sadō practitioners.) The formal tea gathering is usually held between the 10th to the 20th of January. Hatsugama consists of a traditional cha kaiseki 茶懐石meal followed by a serving of thick tea (koicha 濃茶）and thin tea (usucha 薄茶 )followed Japanese confectionary (wagashi 和菓子.)
